How to Remove Greasy Stains

How many times does your child come home from school with greasy stains down the side of his or her pants because they couldn’t find a napkin after eating some yummy french fries? Or the stain down the front of a shirt from a French fry that took a tumble? By their nature, greasy stains are typically not discovered when they are fresh, but these are definitely stains that you want to treat, wash, and NOT place in the dryer until you are sure the stain has been removed.

There are a few options when it comes to tackling a greasy stain. A more non-traditional way to remove this stain would be to use some dishwashing detergent. Apply a little bit to the stain and gently rub. Definitely do not use a lot of dishwashing detergent with your laundry as it foams significantly more than laundry detergent and can cause issues in your machine.

You can also pre-treat the stain with a powerful liquid detergent such as Purex Plus Oxi, which is specially formulated to fight over 101 of your toughest stains. Pour a little Purex plus Oxi onto the stain, rub stained fabric together and let sit for five minutes before putting in the washer and then launder the item as usual. An enzyme based stain remover, such as Zout liquid spray is another great pre-treating option.

When your washing machine is done with its cycle, examine the clothes at the stained area to make sure the greasy stain has been removed. If it has not, repeat your stain removing procedure. Do not place the article in the dryer until you are happy with the stain removal results.

As always, follow the washing directions listed on the tag of the clothing. And if you are unsure of the effects of a stain treating method, apply a little to the inside hem to see if there is an impact on the appearance of your clothing item.

Happy Stain Fighting!
