  •      Can I use any detergent for cold washes?

    While you can use regular Purex detergent in low wash temperatures, Purex Coldwater is formulated to deliver optimal performance in cold water settings.

  •      Can Purex Coldwater detergent also be used in warm water?

    Purex Coldwater delivers great performance in all water temperatures. However, cold-water settings must be used in order to get the benefit of energy savings.

  •      Can Purex Coldwater be used in any washing machine?

    Absolutely! Purex Coldwater is specially formulated to be safe for regular and HE machines.

  •      So what are the advantages of washing in cold water?

    • Energy savings: Approximately 90% of the energy consumed by washing your clothes is a result of heating the water. Think how much energy you could save by only using cold water settings!
    • Money savings: When you use Purex Coldwater in cold water wash settings, each bottle could help you save up to $10 per bottle on your electricity bills.
    • Color protection: Using cold water settings will also help prevent colors from fading.

  •      Do you have any tips for washing in cold water?

    We recommend the following simple steps:
    1. Check all fabric labels for special laundry care instructions.
    2. Pre-treat any visible stains using Purex Coldwater detergent or Zout® stain remover. Learn more about how to remove tough stains.
    3. Start washer using cold-water wash settings.
    4. Measure and add Purex Coldwater detergent by following the instructions on the back label.
    5. For heavily soiled laundry, use more than the amount of detergent recommended for regular loads.
    6. Add laundry, washing similar colors together.
    7. If your machine allows, pre-soak laundry before the wash cycle.
    For extra softening and static control, consider adding Purex liquid fabric softener during the final rinse cycle. You can also add Purex fabric softener sheets when loading your dryer.

  •      Do you have any tips for washing in hard water?

    Believe it or not, more than 85% of homes in the U.S. have hard water, and clothes that are washed in hard water tend to look dingy and feel harsh. Try adding ½ cup of 20 Mule Team® Borax to your wash load. It will help soften water and prolong the life of your clothes.

  •      Why are there different fill lines in the cap? Which one should I use?

    A variety of Purex detergent products are specially formulated with added benefits, and may require a different amount of liquid per load than our regular Purex detergents. Always check the back label on the back of the package—you’ll find the accurate cap fill levels there.

  •      How much laundry is in a normal size load?

    A normal size load is approximately 6 lbs of dry laundry.

  •      Is Purex liquid detergent safe for septic tanks?

    Yes, Purex liquid detergent is safe for your septic tank.

  •      Any tips for getting the best results when doing laundry?

    You came to the right place! For best results, we recommend that you:
    1. Check all fabric labels for special laundry care instructions.
